A group of developers trying to create the world’s smallest Linux server with Wi-Fi built-in is holding a Kickstarter campaign.  They have raised over $420,000 so far!

What is this new piece of technology they have compiled you ask?

The Omega2 is an IoT computer that will be sold for only $5, making it one of the most affordable modern devices on the market.

You may ask, what is an IoT computer? It is a Linux computer designed specifically for building connected hardware applications. It combines the mini form factor and power-efficiency of an Arduino, with the power and flexibilities of a Raspberry Pi.

Here are some key features that may stick out to mind when it comes to regarding the Omega2:

  • The Omega2 is tiny so that it can easily fit into a small DIY project or commercial product. It is less than 1/4 the size of the Raspberry Pi, and less than 1/3 the size of the Arduino Uno.
  • This device is integrated with Wi-Fi and on-board flash storage. This means that it jumps into action the moment you power it on.
  • Using the Omega2 will feel like using a desktop computer. The developers have built simple and intuitive apps for you to interact with the Omega2. They also have an App Store where you can discover even more of their apps for your benefit.
  • It is a full computer running Linux despite its small size. This is the same operating system that powers some of the world’s most mission-critical infrastructure.
  • You can save yourself time by relying on Omega2’s capacity to speak many different languages. This device can be programmed to speak any tech language you would prefer.
  • The Omega2 is modular and expandable. There are many expansion designs to consider for further upgrades of this small but power-packed piece.

All in all, we highly encourage you to check out this novel Kickstarter campaign.  Omega2 is a very exciting new development.  We are sure you will be seeing its proliferation amongst us in the near future!
