We all know that getting an adequate amount of water each day is important for our health & fitness. However, it can be difficult to get the amount of water in that we need. Here are some ways that you can get in more water every day.
Flavor It Up
Drinking glass after glass of water can just get rather boring. Your palette may need a little extra something to actually want to drink that glass of water. You can change things up a bit by adding a little bit of flavor to your water. Throw in some fresh pieces of fruit like some orange slices or chunks of strawberries. For a fresher taste, add some mint or lavender. If you find that you don’t have any water on hand, but have a very sugary drink like fruit juice, you can always water it down a little by adding a lot of ice. Once it starts to melt it will dilute the drink and allow you to get in some of the water that you need.
Make It A Habit
Sometimes the only thing you need to remind yourself to drink more water is to make it a habit. Before you eat a meal, drink a glass of water. If you have a water fountain at work, every time you pass it, fill up a cup of water and drink it. When you take a bathroom break, drink a glass of water afterward. Doing all of these things will help you remember to get in that extra water that you need. If you like to have a drink after work, commit to having a glass of water before you have your next drink. Not only will it help you increase your water intake, but it can keep you from getting a hangover.
Take Advantage Of Apps
There are a lot of great apps that you can use to keep track of how much water you are drinking. Apps like daily Water Free allow you to set a reminder on your phone so that you can remember to drink more water. For some users, this can prove to be fun to use as they try to remember to drink a glass of water before the reminder alarm goes off on their phone. There are also high tech water bottles available that have an app that accompanies it. The water bottle keeps track of each cup of water you consume and then sends this info over to the app where you can review it on your phone.
Keep A Gallon Of Jug Onhand
Sometimes all that you need to get more water in is to have a visual reminder as to how much water you’ve drunk and how much you have left. Start your day by filling up a gallon jug with water. Throughout the day pour some of the water in a cup or bottle and drink it. Being able to see how much water is in the jug will show you how much you drank and how far you have to go. Don’t want to carry around a jug of water every day? There is an alternative to the gallon jug; a marked water bottle. These types of water bottles look similar to a measuring cup with lines and numbers on them. As you drink water out of it you can see exactly how much is left. If you are one of those people that really struggle to drink water, you can set a goal as to when you want to finish the rest of the water by so that you will actually want to drink the water that’s left in the water bottle. Just make sure you pace yourself or you could end up with a stomachache.
Make Your Water Taste Better
One thing that may be stopping you from drinking more water is that you simply don’t like the way that it tastes. You can make it taste better by adding a filter to your faucet. These filters tend to be easy to install and don’t cost a lot of money. It will pay for it’s in the long run and you will save money by not having to buy bottle water. If you don’t want to add a filter to your faucet, you can also get a pitcher that has a filter on it. How it works is that you fill the pitcher and the water will go through the filter. Once you fill it up you can store it in your refrigerator so that you will always have cold, clean water on hand that tastes great.
Drink A Different Type Of Water
You don’t just have to drink “regular” water in order to stay hydrated. Change things up a bit by drinking mineral water or sparkling water. If you are trying to cut back on soda and replace it with water, drink something with carbonation can really help you kick the water habit. Squeezing in a little bit of lemon juice or lime juice can trick your body into thinking that it’s getting a fancy drink when really it’s just a glass of bubbly water.
Eat Foods That Are Filled With Water
You can get water in many different ways and it doesn’t just have to come from what you drink. You can increase your H2O consumption by changing your diet.
